Previous Education and Experience: I received my high school diploma from Cedar Rapids Xavier high School in 2000; then earned my Associate of Arts from Kirkwood Community College in 2002 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 2004. I went on to become a producer for newscasts at KCAU-TV (ABC) in Sioux City and KGAN/KFXA (CBS/FOX) in Cedar Rapids before joining Gazette Communications, where I eventually became Interactive Features Reporter.

My greatest strength as a VISTA is: My knowledge of the Cedar Rapids area and its media. I’ve been able to use my experience to get coverage for our events.

My greatest accomplishment as a VISTA: Getting all of the market’s television stations to cover Harvest of Hope.

My projects: I serve as the public relations liaison for the flood recovery initiative. I gather information to be included in press releases and Web site content, and make sure that info is relayed to the media for coverage consideration.

How I build capacity: By promoting what we are doing, I raise awareness of the needs community members have and the solutions to improving our quality of life as a people.

Fun fact about me: Not only am I an alum of the University of Iowa, I’m also a fan of their athletic teams. GO HAWKS!
