Previous Education and Experience: I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Central College in Pella Iowa in May of 2009. I have spent many summers as a camp counselor building fires, hanging out with kids, and swatting mosquitoes. I have also done my fair share of barista work…some say I make the best latte this side of the Mississippi. I have also had my fair share of volunteer experience throughout the years.

My greatest strength as a VISTA is: I am passionate about people, and I love seeing progress in my projects.

My greatest accomplishment as a VISTA: Helped with recruiting and coordinating 303 volunteers who performed 971.5 hours of service for Fry Fest.

My projects: I am a volunteer coordinator for the CCIA’s mentoring programs. I recruit volunteers and mentors to strengthen the programs. I promote these programs to many different types of people who have many different gifts to share and give to the programs.

How I build capacity: Everyone has a mentor (or someone they look up to). They may be a grandmother or a second grade teacher, but we all have someone that we strive to be like. A mentor also helps you set and attain goals in life. I feel that I am building capacity because mentoring can have a ripple effect in someone’s life. The mentee may become a mentor to someone else someday. We all can learn from healthy positive relationships.

Fun fact about me: I ate a tuna sandwich for lunch on top of a tower in an ancient Welsh castle.
