Erin Kiefer I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from Central College in Pella, Iowa. I have been an intern at Bethany I feel my greatest strength is my love for kids and compassion. I have a strong desire to help kids and this is very beneficial to me in my placement at Jane Boyd with an after school program. My greatest accomplishment as a VISTA has been rebuilding an after school program. I have helped to turn a program from simply being a form of babysitting into a structured program with a routine. My projects: I am responsible for supervising and planning the After School Program at Jane Boyd Community House. I make the schedule and plan what activities we are going to be doing. I help the kids with homework and supervise the outside programs we have come in to Jane Boyd. I work with a computer database that holds attendance and activity records daily. I have also done demographics and data for United Way. I am working on building a reward catalog for our Incentive Program which also includes finding donations. I build capacity by getting things ready for the future. I am working on planning the schedule for summer camp and possibly after that so that it is already done and can be followed once I am gone. The person who will take over my duties will then have my work to look at as an example. I am also networking and building relationships with other community organizations. I am trying to get the Jane Boyd After School Program connected with other organizations and build ties so that they can have a relationship that goes deeper than one person and is more about the agency that a personal connection. Fun fact about me: My heart is in the shape of a half moon. |
