Mary Alice O’Connor
oconnor.maryalice@gmail.com

I received a bachelor of arts in Public and Community Service Studies from Providence College in 2008. Last year, I served as an AmeriCorps*NCCC Team Leader for the North Central Region Campus in Vinton, Iowa.

My greatest strength as a VISTA is: My ability to multitask--I am currently working on several different projects but I find I work best when I am pulled in multiple directions

My greatest accomplishment as a VISTA: Recruiting vendors and donations for door prizes at the VITA Super Tax Saturday event. With the support and participation of over fifteen financial organizations and social service providers, plus donations from an additional ten businesses, the vendor fair was a success. I still have a few months left so I hope to accomplish much more before I leave in July.

My projects: Homecoming Events-Planning celebrations for homeowners whose houses are complete and are moving back in. If you are interested in learning more, please send me an email at happyhomecomingevents@gmail.com.
I will be facilitating the Healthy Wallet Workshop series during Money Smart Week from April 17-24. Please stay tuned for updates on event times and locations. I am recruiting financial organization and social service providers to promote their programs at the Money Smart Women Conference on Saturday, April 24 from 8am to 12:30pm at Kirkwood College. If your organization is interested in learning more or becoming involved, please email me at oconnor.maryalice@gmail.com or if you are interested in attending please register at www.womenandmoneyconference.com.

How I build capacity: I try to keep detailed records of the projects I work on-especially with projects and events that occur every year-such as VITA, so that future VISTAs or staff can pick up where I left off.

Fun fact about me: I have been to Ireland more than 10 times and even though my name is Mary Alice O’Connor, I am actually Italian.
