AmeriCorps VISTA members from the Iowa City-Coralville office of VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery got to work mucking out apartments soon after they finished orientation.
In an effort to draw attention to the need for AmeriCorps VISTA members in Johnson County, the group invited television and newspaper reporters to watch as they mucked, or cleaned out, apartments.

AmeriCorps VISTA Dan Babb of Iowa city, a yearlong member, lead the crew of new VISTAs cleaning up apartments for the non-profit The Housing Fellowship, which provides housing for income qualified families in Johnson County.

A wheel barrow comes in handy as Dan Babb, AmeriCorps VISTA yearlong member from Iowa City, cleans out apartments. Before the floods of June 2008, Babb had been assigned to the Oak Hill Jackson Neighborhood of southeast Cedar Rapids as part of the Central Cedar Rapids Weed & Seed effort.
