VISTA Corridor Flood Recovery
June 25, supplies
June 25, 2008, Westdale Mall, Cedar Rapids.
Flood cleanup means flood cleanup supplies.
AmeriCorps VISTA summer associates assigned to Central Cedar Rapids Weed & Seed quickly adapted their summer goals to include flood recovery.
As a long-term plan was being formulated, VISTAs pitched in any way they could. Some collected water, cleanup kits and other supplies fromĀ a temporary site established outside of Westdale Mall.

Helpful volunteers at this temporary Westdale Mall distribution site load boxes containing Red Cross cleanup kits for AmeriCorps VISTA summer associates Jennifer Heitz, center, and Kristin Weber, right.

Jennifer Heitz, center, Angela Lindaman, center and Kristin Weber, partially hidden behind Kristin, fill up the trunk with cases of bottled water. Pallets of water were everywhere it seemed, ready for hot and sweaty flood-recovery workers in areas of the city without running water post-flood.

Multi-tasker Angela Lindaman, right, appears to be working on her tan as she and Jennifer Heitz, left, and Kristin Weber, partially hidden, wait for volunteers to load supplies at Westdale Mall. The site also offered free hot showers and a portable toilets.
