AmeriCorps* Green Team
I had the opportunity to have the AmeriCorps Green Iowa Team weatherize my apartment today. The Green Iowa Team performs a number of services to the community in Cedar Rapids. They weatherize homes, educate people, and run a community garden. These friendly people are great. Not only do they help the community use less energy and protect our environment, their work also saves money for the people they help.
Aaron and Joy of the Green Team weatherized my apartment in about an hour. They installed some energy efficient light bulbs, insulated the outlets on my exterior walls, and put up plastic over my windows. Aaron told me that had I lived in a house they would normally do more permanent fixes caulk around the windows, check the insulation, insulate pipes and duct work, make sure air doesn’t leak around doors, and check the basement and foundation. Joy added that they also install low flow shower heads and faucet aerators.
The Green Team rocks. They can help make your house more energy efficient, save you money, and lighten your impact on the environment. They are good people and easy to work with. Give them a call or shoot them an email if you’d like them to weatherize your house or apartment.
