United Way Kickoff
United Way Kick Off day 2008 started with lunch in Greene Square Park in Cedar Rapids with various speakers, including Lois Buntz, president & CEO of United Way in East Central Iowa.
United Way of East Central Iowa is the trusted leader for creating positive community change. They are working towards breaking negative cycles and tackling the root causes of problems to bring about lasting change.
There were about 250 people from 24 local businesses dispersed to gut and clean up flooded houses and yards. This was a great success!!
The money United Way collects will go to its 42 partner agencies, which deliver health and human services programs to those most in need in its service area: Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones, Linn and Washington counties.
There were many houses that were started and finished—mucked & gutted out. From taking personal property out of homes, to totally gutting it down to the studs, all jobs small and big were done by volunteers.
